The first thing Ashley Parker will tell you about launch week is that she spent none of it launching. The waitlist had been quietly filling for a month — 611 names, each one collected by a form that asked exactly one question. The second thing she'll tell you is what that question was, and why it outperformed every lead magnet she'd ever built.

The question was: what scent makes a room feel like home to you? Not an email-for-a-discount trade, not a spin-the-wheel — just a question people wanted to answer, with an email field underneath framed as "tell me where to send the answer." The form converted 34% of cold traffic, roughly four times what her old "10% off your first order" bar had ever managed.

From there the whole launch was two emails. The first went out ten days before the June drop and did nothing but report back what everyone had said: the top five scents, the surprising ones, a little chart. It was a story about the readers, not the product. It got a 61% open rate and, more importantly, two hundred replies she answered by hand.

The second email was the launch. It went out on a Tuesday morning with a single line of scarcity that happened to be true — the first batch was 400 units because that's what her equipment could pour in a weekend — and a link. No countdown timer, no fake inventory bar. The batch sold through in nine hours.

The math nobody wants to hear is that the overnight launch took four weeks of showing up in the inbox as a person, not a brand. The form did the collecting, the first email did the trust, the second email did the asking. Give, give, ask — the oldest sequence there is, run on a list she built for the price of one good question.

If you steal one thing, steal the question. A discount asks people to value your product before they know it. A real question asks them to value themselves, and hands you the exact language you'll sell back to them in June.
